DOUGLAS ARTHUR HARTFIEL May 14, 1937 - Sept. 24, 2014 Douglas Arthur Hartfiel, age 77, of Wadena, MN, formerly a longtime resident of the Sebeka/Nimrod area and the Hewitt area, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Lakewood Health Systems in Staples, MN. Doug was born on May 14, 1937 in Columbia Falls, MT to Arthur and Berniece (Hepola) Hartfiel. Tragically, Doug's mom died at his birth and he was subsequently raised by relatives, Jim and Marie McDonald on their farm east of Sebeka. He attended the District #48 Country School near his home. As a young man, Doug helped on the McDonald farm. He especially enjoyed caring for the livestock and working long days in the fields raising and harvesting the crops needed to feed their stock. Over the years, he also worked for Howard Flanagan and Duane Corbin on their farms in the Sebeka/Nimrod area. In the fall of 1978, Doug moved to Cross Timbers, MO where he helped on farms and also collected thousands of aluminum cans. In 1989 he returned to Minnesota where he lived on the Alfred and Dale Lovelace farm for a time. In 1994, Doug purchased a home in Hewitt, MN where he lived until June of 2006 when failing health caused him to become a resident of the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. Later that year he moved to the Comfort Care Cottage in Wadena where he has resided until the present time. Doug had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and loved worshipping at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Nimrod and Wadena. He enjoyed attending church suppers and breakfasts at numerous area churches. He was a long time member of the England Prairie Pioneer Club of Verndale, MN. Doug will be remembered as a gentile caring friend and neighbor who possessed a heart of gold. He will be lovingly remembered by many friends and family members; including, Roseanne Mote and family of Hewitt and Dean and Donna Klebs of Bertha. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Monday, September 29, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Sebeka with Rev. Steven Koehne officiating. The casket bearers will be Steve McDonald, Jon McDonald, Dean Klebs, Dave Holmes, Charlie Holmes, Daniel Mote, Larry Woodard and Jim Childers. Interment will be made in the Sebeka West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 3 PM on Monday at the church. A luncheon will be hosted by the church following the service.
