KATHERINE "Katy" HOCHSTATTER August 6, 1936 - December 13, 2014 Katherine "Katy" Hochstatter, age 78, a life long resident of Park Rapids, MN, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at her residence in Park Rapids surrounded by her loved ones. Katy was born on August 6, 1936 in Park Rapids to Vern and Belinda (Peeler) Weekley. She attended public school in Park Rapids and graduated from the Park Rapids High School with the Class of 1953. Katy was united in marriage to Mel L. Hochstatter on February 12, 1953. This union was blessed with three children: David, Linda and Mary. Katy devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker. In addition to caring for her family, Katy worked as a waitress and cook at Lloyd's Lunch. Later, she gained employment working as a para-professional in the Park Rapids School District #309 in a career that spanned over 27 years until her retirement in 1998. Katy was a life time member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Auxiliary since 1965. She had served as auxiliary President in 1978 and 1979 and had served as a very dedicated poppy and memorial chairperson for over 40 years. On Veterans Day, Katy would bring balloons, flags and cards to all the veterans at the nursing home and had also hosted the November birthday party there for many years. Katie enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, deer hunting and volunteering in a variety of ways. She endured the heartache of losing her only son, David to cancer in October of 2010 and always treasured her memories of time spent with her family. Katy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Mel of Park Rapids; her daughters: Linda (Dennis) Thompson of North St. Paul, MN and Mary (Les) Hochstatter of St. Paul; five grandchildren: Jason, Melissa, Travis, Cory and Alicia and seven great grandchildren; Jordyn, Madison, Kenzie, Diego, Dakota, Desmin and Cael; her four brothers: Deane Weekley of AZ, George Weekley of Texas, Ben Weekley of Detroit Lakes, MN and Boyd Weekley of Coon Rapids; one sister, Donna Holmes of Park Rapids; as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Katy was preceded in death by her son, David and three brothers: Pat, David and Leslie. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with the Rev. Arthur Woods officiating. Special music tributes will be: "Don't Worry About Me", "One More Day", "One Day At A Time" and "In The Garden". Interment will be made in the Hochstatter family plot located in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids. The casket bearers will be her dearly loved grandchildren: Jason Hochstatter, Melissa Shockey, Travis Thompson, Cory Hochstatter and Alicia Hochstatter. The honorary casket bearers will be members of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 Auxiliary. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM Saturday, December 20 until the time of service.
